:: EDUCATION INITIATIVE ::
Education, both youth and adult, is key to the future of pottery. Stories abound of a little continuing education class taken for fun and inspiring a lifetime of creativity. It is vital that those opportunities remain open and available for everyone. Clay Arts, Utah is dedicated to education and advancement of the clay arts. Get involved!
Many members already teach classes or workshops, but sometimes the costs involved become too great a strain. Wendy Wood is an excellent example. She volunteers to teach pottery at her hometown school every other month. But as the gas prices increase, the travel costs are becoming prohibitive. A $20 stipend would allow her to continue to teach. Without it the kids will lose their art teacher.
CAU Members who are teaching and need some assistance with supplies, wages or mileage to keep a pottery class going are encouraged to apply for a Teaching Stipend. We know sometimes just a little can make a big difference, so let us know how we can help. Click Here for more information.(.pdf file)
Saggar fired pottery allows for a broad range of expression, requires only inexpensive, easily made materials, and takes only three hours to fire. It is a perfect pottery option for a class on a tight budget, but it is not well understood. Now that we have almost completed a year of study, the results are being compiled into a manual for Utah schools with project suggestions for various ages. In addition, an advanced saggar article will be submitted to national pottery magazines. But there is no need to wait. All the project results can be found right now in the Resource Library.

:: Clay Arts Travelling Exhibits ::
To increase public understanding and interest in pottery, Clay Arts, Utah has developed a series of exhibits designed to educatate and, perhaps, spark an interest in learing more about this wonderful art form. The colorful exhibits include firing methods with examples kids can touch, games and challenges and information on collecting art. Live demonstrations or kids projects are included whenever possible. Of course, information about local classes, shows and exhibits are always provided.
