The theme of the 2008 Fall Gallery Show, Intimate Wares, has been interpreted by the participating artists in several different ways. Some work speaks to the theme by use of size and detail. Other pieces speak to the psychological aspect of intimate, alluding to intimate details of the artists lives, thoughts or experiences. Several pieces seem to be based on the pun in the title of the show. If you are able to talk to any of the artists they may have yet another twist on the theme.
What the members of Clay Arts Utah have in common is a love of clay and a strong interest in what they can create out of it. They have brought a wide variety of experience to this show, in addition to using a variety of types of clay, firing their work in different kinds of kilns to different temperatures, and employing all kinds of glazes to achieve the desired effect. This show was open to all CAU members. All work was accepted.
The jurors, Bill James, Aaron Ashcraft, and Kevin Parsons, were given the task of selecting Best of Show, Second Place, and Third Place. They looked for details that brought one to look closer to a piece, work that looked like it spoke to the theme of the show, and professional execution of work that looked like the artist had accomplished what they set out to create. As is always the case, there is also a bit of the element of personal appeal.
