Kick off the holiday season by buying a locally made gift. Over 25 Utah ceramic artists will gather Thanksgiving weekend in Sugarhouse to sell their wares. The annual event, now in its 10th year, will be held at the Sugarhouse Garden Center, 1602 East, 2100 South, in the North-East corner of Sugarhouse Park on Friday the 27th and Saturday the 28th from 10 AM to 5 PM. Plenty of free parking is available.
Choose from a wide array of items from some of the best and most creative of Utah's ceramic artists. The show includes hundreds of great gifts under $40. For the practically minded this is an ideal event for finding a unique mug, plate, bowl, egg-separator or chicken-bank. There will also be a wide selection of more decorative pieces. These include vases with iridescent crystalline glazes, fanciful teapots, and raku pots with smokey and colorful glazes.

Every year the Holiday Sale includes a silent auction of wares donated by the potters of Clay Arts, Utah. All of the proceeds from this auction go to fund educational programs sponsored by Clay Arts, Utah. In the past year, this included an all day Educational Workshop attended by 34 Utah teachers looking for help in incorporating ceramic projects into their elementary schools. CAU has also helped buy materials for a ceramics class at the Sandy Senior Center, provided stipends to help volunteers teach ceramics at local schools, and helped buy materials for the Lost Boys Clay Cow Project, a group raising funds for the education of Sudanese refugees.
Clay Arts, Utah is a statewide non-profit organization dedicated to education and advancement of the clay arts. Members range from professional potters to students and supporters of the arts, brought together by the desire to see the clay arts remain strong in our communities.
On the biggest shopping day of the year, don’t wait in line at Walmart to buy mass-produced stuff or the latest electronic gizmo. Find unique gifts they will treasure, and support a great cause at the 10th Annual Holiday Sale and Clay Arts, Utah Fundraiser.
